Scottish Careers Week – Teigan's Journey

From classroom to shipyard, meet Teigan, one of Ferguson Marine’s newly qualified mechanical engineers.

Come with us as we continue to celebrate the diverse career journeys at Ferguson Marine as part of Scottish Careers Week.

After joining us as an apprentice just over three years ago, Teigan has now completed her training and designs the mechanical systems that keep our vessels running smoothly.

“I’ve always been better with learning hands on rather than via textbook”, she says. “When I was at school, I took a college engineering class two days a week – I loved it, and that’s how I found my way to Ferguson Marine”.

For Teigan, shipbuilding is more than just a job. As the last commercial shipyard on the Clyde, it means a lot to her to be a part of that proud legacy, playing a role in safeguarding Scotland’s heritage and pride for building world class ships.

Her proudest moment so far is finishing her apprenticeship early and seeing her work come to life.

Teigan hopes her journey will inspire other young women to explore engineering and shipbuilding. “Never be put off by the idea that it’s a male-dominated field –that’s changing. If you enjoy solving problems and working hands-on, go for it. You might surprise yourself with what you can do”.

At Ferguson Marine, we’re proud to support and develop local talent in Inverclyde – and to show that there’s space for everyone in shipbuilding.
