As part of Scottish Careers Week, we’re showcasing the range of fulfilling careers available at Ferguson Marine. Following on from Jennifer’s technical journey, we now spotlight how corporate functions like HR are also vital to creating a sustainable future for shipbuilding in Scotland.

Carol Anne plays a key role in shaping our culture, leading our people strategy, and supporting leadership development across all departments. She also oversees diversity, equity, and inclusion – helping make Ferguson Marine a place where everyone can thrive.

Having worked in shipbuilding for several years, she was drawn to the industry because of its purpose and heritage. “I was very fortunate to have worked with a number of great engineers who have built and produced something!”

For Carol Anne, the best part of her job is seeing people reach their potential, “seeing capability in individuals and helping them to channel and use it” is what motivates her most.

Carol Anne believes that women have a vital role to play in the future of shipbuilding and that diversity has the power to bring different thinking and creativity which only stands to support innovation and success.

Her message to girls thinking about their future careers:

“Open your mind up – there are opportunities for fantastic, fulfilling careers in engineering and functions supporting engineers, being part of building and creating vessels and things of purpose.”
