Job Title: Liaison Engineer

Location: Onsite Port Glasgow

Reports to: Head of Engineering

Salary: c£35K

 

Job Purpose:

We are looking for a Liaison Engineers to act as the critical interface between the design office and the production teams on the shop floor.

This role ensures that engineering intent is clearly communicated, understood, and implemented during vessel construction, while also feeding back practical insights from production to improve design efficiency and buildability

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a point of contact between engineering and production departments.
  • Interpret and clarify technical drawings, specifications, and design intent for production teams.
  • Identify and resolve design-to-build issues, ensuring alignment with project timelines and quality standards.
  • Support production planning by providing engineering input on build sequences, material usage, and structural integration.
  • Facilitate design change management, ensuring updates are communicated and implemented effectively.
  • Conduct regular site walkdowns to monitor progress, identify issues, and provide engineering support.
  • Collaborate with naval architects, structural engineers, and outfit designers to optimize constructability.
  • Document lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of design and production processes.
  • Ensure compliance with classification society rules and shipyard standards during execution

 

Person Specification

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree or HND in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in shipbuilding or heavy marine fabrication, ideally in a liaison or production support role.
  • Strong understanding of shipyard processes, structural fabrication, outfitting, and modular construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and 3D models.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
  • Familiarity with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, SolidWorks) and production planning tools

 Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with classification societies and regulatory bodies.
  • Knowledge of welding standards, material specifications, and structural tolerances.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional meetings and drive collaborative problem-solving.
  • Understanding of digital shipbuilding workflows and PLM systems.
