Job Title: Graduate Naval Architect
Location: Port Glasgow (onsite)

What you will be doing
The undergraduate Naval Architect will support the design, construction, and maintenance of marine vessels in the shipyard environment. Offering hands-on experience and practical application of naval architecture principles while working alongside experienced professionals.
Supporting Engineering teams with technical activities throughout design, construction, commissioning and handover phases. This involves both onboard shipyard and engineering office duties contributing to engineering drawings, calculations, inspections and future bid preparations, while gaining practical experience and mentorship to develop your potential.
Key Responsibilities
Design Support
Assist in the development of preliminary and detailed designs for vessels. - Create and update design documentation, including drawings and specifications. - Utilize CAD software to produce 2D and 3D models of ship components.
Project Coordination
Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to ensure project milestones are met. - Participate in project meetings and provide updates on assigned tasks. - Assist in the coordination of activities between different departments within the shipyard.
Technical Analysis
Perform stability analyses and hydrodynamic studies to ensure vessel performance meets design criteria. - Conduct material selection and structural integrity assessments. - Analyses data from model testing and simulations.
Quality Assurance
Support quality control processes during the construction phase, ensuring adherence to design specifications and industry standards. - Assist in the preparation of inspection and testing plans.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate records of design changes, project progress, and technical specifications. - Prepare reports and presentations on project status, design evaluations, and engineering analyses.
Research and Development
Conduct literature reviews and research on emerging technologies and practices in naval architecture. - Participate in brainstorming sessions to propose innovative solutions to design challenges.
Safety and Compliance
Familiarize with safety regulations and environmental standards relevant to shipbuilding and marine operations. - Participate in safety training and ensure compliance with health and safety protocols in the shipyard
Skills & Experience Required
Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, Napa, Aveva or SolidWorks).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Basic understanding of marine engineering principles in shipyard Work Environment
The role will be based in the shipyard, requiring adaptability to various working conditions. - Hands-on tasks may require physical activity and adherence to safety protocols
