Detail Designer

Job Title: Outfit Detail Designer

Reports to: Head of Engineering

Location: Port Glasgow

Department: Engineering

Salary: Competitive

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed 2D design layouts and arrangements, taking into consideration client requirements and safety regulations
  • Liaise with electrical, mechanical and structural teams to manage technical queries
  • Work closely with the customer and subcontractors to address any design-related issues or concerns
  • Review and modify designs based on feedback from internal and external stakeholders
  • Carry out on-site vessel reviews to assist with drawing creation and support Production teams
  • Requisition materials from BoMs and work with the Procurement team when suppliers suggest alternative materials
  • Review 3D model and consult with European Design Team where required
  • Complete drawings efficiently and ensure all outputs are aligned to Planning and Production schedules
  • Ensure designs meet regulatory class requirements
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines appropriate to the role

Person Specification

  • Excellent communication skills, for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Self-starter, able to follow output schedules and work to deadlines

 

Required Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

  • Proficient use of AutoCAD (or similar design software) and Microsoft Office
  • Minimum of 4 years drawing office or detail design experience, preferably within the commercial shipbuilding industry
  • A good understanding of ship outfitting requirements and UK passenger ship regulations
  • HNC/HND/relevant time-served apprenticeship preferred
  • HVAC and structural knowledge – an advantage
  • Production experience – an advantage.
