Ferguson Marine Engineering Secures Contract to Build Air Cushion Barge

Marine engineering specialist, Ferguson Marine Engineering (FMEL), is delighted to announce they have secured a contract to build an air cushioned barge for Mangistau ACV Solutions Ltd, a part of the CMI Offshore Ltd Group.

The 55 x 24m vessel will be the world’s first self-propelled air cushion barge, capable of carrying up to a 150 ton payload over tundra, swamps, ice and water.

George Macleod, ACB Construction Manager, commented:

“We are delighted to be able to work with a Scottish shipbuilder on such a ground-breaking project. The innovative team at Ferguson Marine Engineering have proven they have the skills and experience necessary to undertake building this world-first prototype barge.”

Gerry Marshall, FMEL CEO, added:

“This exciting project win is further evidence our current diversification strategy is already beginning to have a hugely positive impact on the business. Undoubtedly, these types of contracts are essential in helping secure the long-term future of the yard.”

Work on the barge officially commenced on Friday 26th October with an estimated project completion scheduled in 2019.
